Predicting children's interpersonal problems in terms of parenting styles

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between parenting styles and children's interpersonal problems. In this study, 249 Tehran women and men (156 women, 93 men) were referred to the family courts. Participants completed the Parent's Authority Questionnaire (PAQ), a short form of In-Person Problem Questionnaire (IIP-30). The results of this study showed that there is a significant negative correlation between parenting styles of parents and the children's interpersonal problems, and there is a significant negative correlation between parental parenting style and interspecific problems of children. The results of the study showed a positive, but non-significant relationship between parents' promiscuity parenting style and interpersonal problems of their children. Based on the findings of this research, it can be concluded that interpersonal relationships and interpersonal problems of children are likely to be affected by the parenting styles of their parents.
